U.S. officials described the plane as the equivalent of Air Force One and stated that it was taken from the Dominican Republic and flown to Florida.
"This sends a message all the way to the top," one of the U.S. officials boasted on CNN. "Seizing a foreign head of state’s plane is unprecedented in criminal terms. We are sending a clear message: no one is above the law, no one is safe from American sanctions."
The U.S. Department of Justice "announced the seizure of a Dassault Falcon 900EX aircraft owned and operated for the benefit of Nicolás Maduro and individuals affiliated with him in Venezuela."
The United States has rejected the results of the 2024 elections and recognized Edmundo González Urrutia, who was on the opposition ballot, as the winner. Venezuelan electoral authorities declared Maduro the winner.
