Israeli News website Ynet reports that a 22 year old dual Israeli-Belgian citizen is under investigation in Belgium for alleged war crimes committed while serving as a sniper in an elite IDF unit during operations in Gaza.

The probe was initiated after Palestinian journalists reported accusations of the execution of unarmed civilians. The report claims an American soldier from the same unit provided evidence of civilians being deliberately targeted. Belgian Justice Minister Paul Van Tigchelt emphasized that while Israel has a right to self-defense, it must adhere to international humanitarian law. This comes after a investigative report by Palestinian journalist Younis Tirawi who accused the unit of "the brutal execution of unarmed civilians."
