An alternative to NATO: After the group's first meeting, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umierov announced the establishment of the "Northern Group-Ukraine" alliance, comprising 12 countries
from Scandinavia, the Baltic States, and Northern Europe, aimed at enhancing security and bolstering Ukraine's defense efforts. This is an extension of the already existing "Northern Group" alliance initiated by the UK in 2010. None of the mainstream media have covered this event.
The alliance includes Nordic countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland, along with Baltic states Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United Kingdom. The group’s objectives are to address common threats, equip Ukrainian brigades with heavy military equipment, and invest in Ukraine's defense industry using models such as the Danish framework, which includes Sweden, Norway, and Lithuania.
These nations have already provided significant support to Ukraine, including Western battle tanks, long-range munitions, air defense systems, F-16 fighter jets, and financial backing for defense production. The group’s next meeting is planned to take place in Ukraine.
The initiative aims to "Trump-proof" aid to Ukraine, ensuring that a newly elected Donald Trump cannot terminate support for Ukraine’s efforts in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Last week, the U.S., France, and the UK authorized medium-range missile strikes deep into Russian territory. Ukraine subsequently attacked a Russian command center in the Kursk region using U.S. ATACMS missiles. In response, Russia launched a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, deploying 36 warheads. This exchange marks another dangerous escalation, bringing the world closer to the brink of nuclear war.
