It writes: "The struggle to turn a profit on travel between Europe and Asia has led several airlines, including Lufthansa, British Airways, and Poland's LOT, to suspend long-haul routes to Asia. Chinese and other non-European carriers have replaced them."
Politico briefly mentions that rising costs and fares are linked to the closure of Russian and Ukrainian airspace. However, it is unfortunate that they fail to acknowledge that this airspace closure is a direct consequence of the EU's first sanction package against Russia. This package, it should be noted, barred Russian airlines from EU airspace, prompting reciprocal actions from Russia.
This and the subsequent twelve sanction packages have been driven by a highly aggressive Ursula von der Leyen and her EU Commission. EU sanctions are devastating our European economy. The EU would do better to send diplomats and strive for peace rather than funding a war against our vital European neighbor.
