Simplicius, on his excellent Substack, reports on the desperate situation of Ukraine on the front lines.
Kiev Independent describes the severe conditions on the Toretsk front:
Vadym Sukharevsky, head of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, states that Russian drones outnumber Ukrainian drones six to one. However, advanced Ukrainian electronic systems have managed to maintain parity. Nevertheless, he admits that drones will not overturn the fundamental principles of warfare. It is combined arms warfare that wins the battle.
Ukrainian General Syrskyi acknowledges that the Russians initially attacked Ukraine with 100,000 men. By the end of 2024, there will be 690,000 Russian soldiers. In terms of equipment, the ratio is 1:2 or 1:3 in favor of the Russians. Since 2022, the number of Russian tanks has doubled, from 1,700 to 3,500. Artillery systems have tripled, and armored personnel carriers have increased from 4,500 to 8,900.
Economist Danil Monin has analyzed military budget expenditures for the first six months of 2024. The findings are striking and, most notably, confirm the figure of 400,000 military dead and wounded. It turns out that we have spent twice as much money on payments to the dead as on supplying the living soldiers!
The situation for Ukraine is desperate, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces continuing to collapse on the front.
